The Meeting Room Quality Barometer numerically rates critical factors designed to foster more effective meetings, says Coleman Lee Finkel, a Baltimore native. An ex-marine, he spent a decade overseeing American Management Association meetings as director of 10 division managers, went on to head Conference Center Development Corp., and was owner-operator of conference centers and hotels in Williamsburg, Va., and East Windsor, N. J.
In his research, Finkel found meeting participants preferred soothing light blue pads for notes as opposed to white pads and blue chart pads and soft music in reception rooms and lounges. Poor lighting, pictures and flashy wallpaper create distractions.
